DISTRICT NEWS.

BELL BLOCK. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

•The following is a brief summary of the annual report of the president of the Bell Block Public Hall Association, presented at the adjourned annual general meeting of subscribers: "I have the pleasure of congratulating you on another fairly successful year, notwithstanding the fact that the receipts from socials, etc., were less by £2l than last year (there being fewer entertainments held by the committee), but this was partly met by a drop in the expenses, which amount to £9. The committee have during the year made considerable additions to the buildings by adding two dressing-rooms, raising the roof, widening the supper-room, and having a copper fixed in the kitchen. They had also had the road metallled to the back of the hall and the building painted. In order to meet payment of these improvements the committee made arrangements with the bank for an overdraft of £SO, which now stands at £42. In order to reduce expenses the committee decided to do without the services of a caretaker for the time being. As there will be no extraneous expenditure for a least a couple of years the incoming committee should have no difficulty in wiping off the debt in a reasonable time."
