X.Z. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS,

By Cable—Press Association-rCopyright. Cliristchurch, Last Night. The New Zealand Amateur Swimming Championship meeting opened to-night in the Municipal tepid baths. There was a very largo attendance, many who had not reserved seats being unable to gain admission. Results:—

100 yds Championship of New Zealand. —First heat: C. Brice (Wellington) 1, L. Weston (Ponsonby) 2, Jerr,es (Opawa) and Claringbold (Wanganui) also competed. 'Won by a yard. Time, 66 3-ssec. Second heat: W. E. Cookson (East Christchurclj) 1, A. Ohare (Waitemata) 2. C. Welson (Waitemata) and G. Seymouth (Napier) also competed. Welson won, but was disqualified for omitting to touch the top of the bath. No time was taken. Third heat: M. E. Champion (Waitemata) 1, J. D. Stewart (Waitemata) 2. H. Walden (Hastings), R. Healey (New South Wales) and E. J. Dawson (Dunedin) also started. Time, (56 2-osee. Final: Champion 1, Weston 2, Ohare 3. Won by four yards. Time, 63 3-ssec. *

The Ladies' Handicap, 33 was won by Miss A. O'Leary (Masterton-), scr., with Miss L. Mackay (Waitemata) second. Time, 25sec.

£8 2-3 yds. Inter-club Handicap. L. McDonald (East Christchureh), 13sec., 1. Time, 50sec.

One Mile Championship.—First heat: M. E. Champion (Waitemata) 1, R. Newman (Dunedin) 2, L. Hill (Papanui) F. J. Kernot (Ponsonby) also competed. Champion's time was 25min. Itfsec., Newman's 27min. 35sec, and Hill's 29min. 5 l-ssec. Second Heat: Felix Seymour (Hawke's Bav) 1, C. Welson (Waitemata) 2, C. H. H. Rich (Opawa) 3. Also competed: E. 5. McQuillan (Waitemata) and E. J. Dawson (Dunedin). The winner's time was 26min. 34sec. The final will not be decided to-night.
