FLOODS IN SPAIN.
STRAITS OF VILLAGERS.
FOODLESS FOR SIX DAYS,
By Cable—Press Association—■ Copyright, Madrid, February 14.
Twelve riverside villages on the banks of the Guadalquiver, with a population of 34,000 persons, have not a house above the flood level. The first boats with bread from Seville reached the villages after the inhabitants had starved for six days. Many deaths resulted from drowning and exposure. Some bulls at Villa Franca, near Lisbon, which were being trained for Spanish bull fights, stampeded owing to the gale destroying the sheds, and plunged into the Tagus. Over a thousand were drowned.
