MORE LIGHT ON THE PERIODICITY QUESTION.
Mr. W. J. Newton, the manager of the Stratford Electric 'Supply Company, .whilst declining to enter into a newspaper controversy with an anonymous correspondent, says he cannot allow; the statements by "Vigilant" •in this (Wednesday) morning's Daily News to go uncontradicted in reference to periodicity. He points out that the British Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company includes in its list 25, 40, 50 and 60 periods jis "standard" periodicities. The Fuller Company also schedules 40-period motors, whilst 25-period single-phase plants are being put down for railway work. For power purposes plants with periodicity as low as 15 are used. ■ Mr. Newton explains. that the only reason for increasing the periodicity is to ensure that there will be no flickering shown in the light. There .is. no flicker-, itfg noticeable in the. light- supplied by: the local company,- so why worry about increasing, the periodicity?. The valuators' recommendations jn reference to standardisation were not in regard to periodicity a,t all, ,but to the size of units.
