GISBORNE-NAPIER LINE. By Telegraph—Press Assooiation. Gisborne, Tuesday. Men started to-day on the construction of Gisbonie-Xapici' railway, the first sod of which was turned by the Governor on Saturday. The work began at King's road junction, about which there has been considerable controversy, settlers contending that the line must be covered by flood water for nearly the whole distance in time of heavy flood, whereas a large portion of the Makaraka route is above flood level.
CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION". Wellington, Tuesday. It is stated that much dissatisfaction exists over some of the work of the Public Service Classification Board, which was gazetted last night. It is possible that three-fourths of the members of the service will exercise the right of appeal against the classification.
