DISTRICT NEWS

LINCOLN ROAD. l¥r<m Our Own Cwrwspoadant.) The fine weather for the past three or four weeks has somewhat compensated the farmers for the very unseasonable conditions prevailing previously. Tba hay crops have nearly all been harvested in pretty fair order, and other crops, such as maize, turnips and even truit trees, are looking well. Speaking of fruit, I may state that in my opinion this district can grow fruit of all kinds equal to any district in the Dominion. [There are not many here who go in for fruit-growing, but those who do know what can be done with a little care. The only thing that is needed is a handy market.

I regret to state that our creamery manager (Mr. Robert Swaaston) met with a severe accident by falling off a ladder on to the concrete pavement in the factory. On latest advices, I hear he is progressing satisfactorily. Mr. James, the Moa Company's manager, is at present looking after the creamery.

A great many settlers around here have cleared fresh pieces of ground for cultivation. This not only makes the land more productive, but also enhances its value.

Mr.' E. Hopson lias felled and just burnt the last piece of bush likely to be felled here. We are troubled with loose stones xm the roads, but the board's foreman (Mr. T. Knoflflock) is minimising th'e evil by light blinding on the steep grades, which Is a very good idea. The Bristol Road Cricket Club's members have been unable to get in as much practice as they would have liked, owing to the busy harvesting, but still they are all keen and looking for a match witk some handy team. Mr. Gilbert Reed, the newly-elected sWpper, is proving the right man in the right place, and is bringing the young players on nicely. The lacteal flow is on the decline.
