A London cablegram says that Earl Spencer, Lord Chamberlain, has resigned on account of his health, and it is understood also partly owing to the censorship controversy. Dr. Andrew Martin Fairbairn, M.A., L.L.D., D.Litt., Principal of Emeritus Mansfield College, Oxford, is dead. He was one of Britain's greatest theologians. —-London cable.

Miss .Alice Corry, eldest daughter of Mr. S. Eden Corry, of Fitzroy, returned from England on the 6th inst. by the Rotorua, after completing a course of art studies in Glasgow and London. It will be remembered that a few of this talented young artist's paintings were on view among Mr. Herbert Babbage's exhibits, on his last visit to New Plymouth, and were greatly admired. Miss Corry proceeds by the Earawa to-night to take up her duties at the Diocesan School, Auckland.

Mr, H. Potter, who is leaving for Auckland on Friday, was on Saturday forenoon presented by his fellow employees at Messrs. Henry Brown and Co.'s joinery factory with a case of silver-mounted pipes suitably inscribed. Mr. Chas. Abler, one of the principals in the firm, in making the presentation, referred to the regret that he felt in losing Mr. Potter, who was leaving the firm's employ after a connection of 16 or 17 years, duHng the whole of which time his relations with the firm had been of a pleasant and harmonious nature. Mr. Potter had, he remarked, taken great interest in the apprentices under him, and it was mainly due to his influence on them that many of them were now holding responsible positions in New Zealand and Australia. Mr. Potter, in responding, expressed his appreciation of the presentation and also his regret at severing his connection with the firm after so many years.
