Astronomy for soldiers is to be taught in the English army, under the direction of the distinguished astronomer, Sir Notman Lockyer. To illustrate the value of a knowledge of the stars, he tells how when Lord Wolseley ordered a night.attack upon AraM Pasha's forces at Tel-el-Kebir, the expedition would have failed but for two naval officers whose study of navigation had made them more or teas familiar with the heavens. Life policies to the amount of £1,800,JOOO are caried by the Czar of ( Russia, while King George and the Kaiser are covered for about a million pounds each.
