NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH.

VARIOUS WORKS. I In his report on the progress of work for the month ending January 31, 1912, I the borough engineer states:— ■ Hobson street: The formation and metalling is now completed, but one'casement should be obtained on the northeastern corner of section 1566, to allow j for the widening of the footpath. Aub-rey--street: The formation is nearly completed. The sewer should be laid in the street before the metal is put on. Buller street: The formation is completed, the footpath covered with gaol gravel, and about six chains of metal have been put down. The remainder of the metalling should be completed in about ten days. New Gover street: The formation is completed, and the footpath has been covered with gaol gravel. The metalling should be completed in about two weeks. MoleswoTth street: The formation is progressing satisfactorily. The earth for the filling is being taken from Germain Square. Leach street bridge: The redecking of the old railway bridge is being pushed on and should be completed m three weeks. TARRING AND SANDING. Currie street—The tarring and sanding is now completed, but will require another coat of tar and sand before the summer is out. Several footpaths have been patched, tarred and sanded. WATERWORKS. The weeds at the old waterworks have not yet been cut down. Some planking j from the dam has disappeared, but may j possibly have been washed away by the ] flood, and it should be all taken off and placed in some place of safety. The en-gine-house has been broken into again. This house has been nailed up several times, and I would suggest that all timber and machinery of any value be brought into town for safety, as there is no doubt the place will be burned down, and consequently some valuable machinery destroyed. The filters and everything in connection with the water sup- | ply are working satisfactorily. .
