A MAORI SENTENCED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A young Maori named Lauri, alias Hori Wirihana, was brought before Mr. Justice Chapman to-day for sentence on three charges of breaking and entering and theft at Paralcine, on the Wanganui river. His Honor remarked that prisoner had a long series of convictions. Attempts had been made to reform him by short terms of imprisonment, but they had failed. Lauri must be sentenced to two years' reformative treatment on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative. UNUSUAL WILL CASES. Timaru, Last Night. The Supreme Court concluded to-day. Two will cases were heard. In one a widow asked for an increased maintenance allowance out of an estate. A comparatively young woman, she married a man over 70. Her husband died eight years after the marriage. There were no children. In his will he left her a small farm valued at £750. The larger balance of the estate was left to grownup children by the first marriage. The widow claimed that the return from the farm (£1 a week) was insufficient. Judge Denniston refused to make an order for a lump sum. He would consider to make one for annual payment, deducting the value of the farm. In the second case a retired farmer was treated in the Timaru Hospital, and made a will while there providing for payment of £lO "to each of th'e nurses who have attended ■ me in my last illness." Up to the time of making his 'will only two nurses had attended him, but afterwards twelve more attended him. The question for the Court vf as whether two or fourteen nurses were .en-, titled to £lO each. The Judge will give his considered judgment.
