DEACONESS FLORENCE.
WELCOME TO NEW PLYMOUTH. In welcoming the new deaconess, Sister Florence, at a gathering of Whiteley Church members this week, the Rev. J. W. (Burton said it was a new thing to New Plymouth and Taranaki to have a deaconess. Explaining Sister Florence's duties, Mr. Burton remarked that they would (chiefly have to do with the young ladies and children. She would also devote part of her time to visiting the sick and infirm, the gaol and the hospital. The Rev. F. P. Kellow and Messrs. E. ] N. L. Okey. (circuit steward) and W: Ambury (Sunday School superintendent) also addeda few words t of welcome, after which •Sister, Florence, who, is; a re- 4 cent graduate of the Methodist 'Deacons' Heme,, at Chris tchurch, replied, expressing a hope that members of the church would rally round her. Songs were contributed during the evening by Mrs. L. H. Osborn, Misses Cannell, Roberts and Ford, and a duet by Mr. and Mrs. W.' Ambury.
