A crisis has been reached at the National Conference in connection with the mining industry, owing to the stand taken by Mr. Enoch Edwards, MJ\, on behalf of the miners, who, he said, are determined to ignore the existing agreements in connection with the demand for a minimum wage. The South Wales coal owners thereupon withdrew, regarding the statement as a notification of the intention to tear up the agreements. THE MINIMUM WAGE. MINE-OWNERS DISAGREE WITH PRINCIPLE. The owners admitted the principle of a fair wage, and offered 1 special consideration for abnormal places, but declined to recognise the individual minimum wage.
