A COMING CRISIS.
: : ,(.|T .1 ' •'•TWO KINDS OF SOCIALISM. 1 ; '. -III.'! 't'r ' ;' AMltfistio'p Carr, of Melbourne, in the MuWto'-bf An interesting address at the -opteniijg '.of a new Catholic' .school 'at WiJfHftlnrbpol on January 28, said/that looking' over the faqe of the world at tfce present time he thought that every'6rle''rriii,s^:c'ome to the conclusion that'a gr^kt'crisis was approaching, - a crisis wh'icn would affect the social', moral and rcjfigiojus interests of the people of every '%d!!!,H? looked to the great work of 1 the religious education of the young as destined by God, and pointed 'at by reason as the most effective method' of preventing that crisis that threatSricdVj.widespread injury to the race*. 'jThje'ije was a socialism which tended to I the. uplifting of the working man, and of ith'aj; sialism he was an ardent suphut, there was also an extreme of sialism. ; which was identified very large.ly/wijih.. anarchy which acknowledged no ' law',' no' morality, and no God, and in common, with his audience he was desperately opposed to that extreme phase j.'o'f socialistic movement. If the com- :' mandments of God, the duty of .one man to another, and the requirements of a moral and religious life were not impressed on the minds of the young, the time would come when they would have a universal insurrection against the prevailing order, against the authority of the. State, and against the decrees of the Almighty Himself. The reason why Catholics opposed religious instruction in State schools was not because it was religious instruction, but because it was religious instruction of a worthless character, and eoukl not be imparted without inflicting serious injury on those children whose parents were not satisfied with that minimum and that residuum (if religious truth it contained, and who were not willing to introduce their children to teachers who professed a different form of religion to their own. (Applause).
