The Wanganui horseman, F. Coleman, will pilot Allure at Hawera, and this horse may be relied upon to run honestly each day. The victory recorded by Miss Advance at Riccarton on Saturday is the first that has come her way since winning at Takapuna twelve months ago. Jargon has thrown off his lameness, and beat Lady Menschikoff over a mile at Hawera one recent' morniiig. Waverley reports state that Labor Day has just been taken up after a long spell, and will not be quite ready for the Egmont meeting. Birkline has won three good races since Xmas, and. an offer of SOOgns did not tempt his owner to sell after the horse won. at Gisborne.
Wild Lupin is still feeling the effects of his accident at Wellington, and if started at Hawera may not be seen at his best. ' ;

Gladiole and Dearest showed excellwit form at Trentham, and their meeting in the Flying Handicap to-day promises to be a big draw. Dearest will probably have most friends.
Winning Way has turned out a most erratic filly, and after her disgraceful performance at Trentham, she nearly did as badly in the Middle Park Plate, ruining all over the course, and giving Emmerson a very uncomfortable ride. Black Northern, who has won four hurdle races in succession, will probably carry a lot of Auckland money in his Hawera engagements. Of his latest victory at Takapuna an exchange' says: "The finish of the Waiwera Hurdle Eace at Takapuna on Monday will not be readily forgotten by those who witnessed it.' Black Northern and Blue Mountain rose at the last fence together, but on , the flat Blue Mountain appeared to run steadier for a few strides than his rival. The pair then settled down 'to their work in dead .earnest, Blue Mountain (A. Julian) close on the rails, and amidst considerable excitement Cowan just managed to force Black Northern home by a head.' Black Northern has great pace and usually jumps brilliantlv. Particulars of the victory of the three-year-old loli. (Birkenhead—lsolf.) in the Novice Handicap at the A.J.C. meeting: show that the New ZealandeV, who started a warm favorite, was in front after going a furlong and won in a Winter by half a dozen lengths. At the same meeting Mr. Dan O'Brien's Respect, by Multiform—Heriot, ran'Ptah a close second m the .High-Weight Handicap. Seventeen remain in the Gup and nine in the Flying. The hack races promise very large fields. The presence or Coroinandel, Mendip, Dearest, Captain Soult, Gladiole, St. Petersburg, Projectile and other good horses at the meeting ensures a record gathering and no club deserves it better than the T.J.C., which has successfully battled through several lean years and now raises its head to face the bright times ahead.
