PARTITIONING AUSTRALIA.
THE PROFESSOR'S PROPOSAL CRITICISED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, February 5. Sir Newton Moore, Agent-General for West Australia, speaking at the Birmingham Jewellers' dinner and referring to Professor Caldeeott's proposal to cede the Australian Northern Territory to Germany, said that even if England was inclined to listen to the recommendation she was not in a position to cede the territory of a self-governing Dominion. The Imperial Conference had shown that a new situation was arising out of the Dominions taking their part in Imperial questions and sharing" in defence. It was impossible to conceive how Professor Caldeeott's extraordinary proposition could be adopted.
