AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

CLOSER RELATIONS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, February 6. The Federal Government has decided to act along the lines indicated by Mr. Fisher in connection with securing closer relations with New Zealand, as soon as politics in the Dominion are more settled. It is believed that at first the movement will be restricted to defence and commercial relations.

Mr. Fisher stated that action would be taken on the lines of the motion proposed at the Hobart Conference. He considers that a defence agreement should be made between the Commonwealth and the Dominion as practically an immediate step towards closer political relations.

Mr. Pearce, Minister for Defence, has instructed the captain of the Naval College to prepare particulars of the proposal for training New Zealand cadets.
