Mr. W. G. Wickham, Commissioner of the London Board of Trade, is at present at New Plymouth. He will remain here for a few days, and lie will be pleased to meet any of the business people during his stay so as to familiarise himself with local conditions. To-day he is visiting the oil works at Moturoa. The body of the late Mr. H. S. Fitzherbort, S.M., was conveyed to tile railway station yesterday, followed by, members of the deceased gentleman's family r the court officials, and the police, and conveyed to Wanganui. From there it will be taken to-day to Lower Hutt, where the interment is to take place to-morrow. -
Mr. F. (!. Matthews was appointed on Saturday to take charge o.f the Prints Minister's secretarial staff, in succession' to Mr. J. Hislop, who has been made lender-secretary for Internal Affairs. For the past ten years Mr. Matthews has been a member of the Prime Minister's secretarial staff, of which'he is now to take charge. Mr. Charles D. Stuart, a well-known draper of Picton, died suddenly on Saturday, aged sixty-eight years. He was in his usual health on Friday night, but collapsed at 7 o'clock next morning, beii|g dead before a doctor arrived. Heart trouble was. the-cause. Deceased was a. popular resident of Picton for very many years, being secretary-and founder of the Bowling Club and Horticultural Society.. He leaves a widow, one son and two-; daughters.
