A HOTELKEEPER FINED. By Telegraph—Press Association, • Gisborne, Last Night. ' j Two cases arising out of the death of a man named Klein at Pt. Awanui were heard at the latter place to-day before Mr. W. A. Barton, S.M., when F. G. Allen, licensee of the Sea View Hotel, near Pt, \wanui, was charged with manslaughter in that he supplied excessive' quantities of liquor to Klein, who was under his care in a helpless condition. «m«i The Magistrate considering there was illsufficient evidence, this charge was dismissed, but for permitting drunkenness on his premises Allen was fined £ls and. had his license endorsed. .
CHRISTCHURCH BOROUGH ROADS.. Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of the City Council tonight the Mayor brought down a scheme for improving the city roads aid footpaths, involving a cost of £120,000. The scheme will he discussed at a special meeting to be held next week. At the same meeting serious complaints 'were made/re diseased meat being sent dot ' from the municipal abattoirs, and the Council decided to hold a special- enquiry into the truth of the allegations.

Timaru, Last Night. A whaler's try-pot has turned up in Timaru, where it has been in use as a drinking trough at a town dairy twenty years or more.
