""THE TAHITI'S ROUND TRiV. -

Rather varied were the incidents which occurred ; n connection with the Union Company's new steamer Tahiti on her first round trip from Wellington to Sydney, which concluded last week. First of all, the Vessels'- arrival 1 at Rarotonga and Tahiti was awaited with interest, for her description had preceded her, and, when the liner steamer into the first port of call'from Wellington, the whole island turned out to see her.

At Papeete—the port of call - j the Tahiti's reception "was, if anything,! warmer than on the first occasion. At the French port Captain Evans and his i officers entertained the Governor and various Consuls on board, arid the ship was thrown open for inspection. Hundreds of people availed themselves of this opportunity of seeing the new liner. The next incident of note occurred when the Tahiti was approaching San Francisco. On this occasion it was a ' "wireless incident." When the steamer was several nights out from San Francisco, wireless communication was established with the shore stations, but as soon as it was ■ found that the vessel "speaking" was the Tahiti San Francisco appeared to "close down," pnd no messages could be sent through. The cause of being shut out "was considered by an officer to be the fact that the Tahiti was equipped with a Marconi instrument, and the United Wireless Company's stations would not take her messages, During the vessel's stay in San Francisco the Marconi shore station was completed, amTcommunication was maintained for several nights out on the homeward run. During the. run down from San Francisco to Wellington, Honolulu was spoken at a distance of 2200 miles. OVERSEA VESSELS. STEAMERS TO ARRIVE AT WELLINGTON.
