INTOLERABLE ESPIONAGE.
SYSTEM ABOLISHED. By Cable—Pr«ss Association—Copyright. Paris, February •>. M. Millerand, Minister of War. has abolished the system of prefects receiving reports concerning army officers, invented by M. Combes, in order to extirpate anti-Republican clerical influences. The system has since.developed into intolerable espionage, conducted by the civil authorities, including the secret denunciation of officers whose only cffence consisted of attending mass.
. STEWART SENTENCED. DECLARES HIS INNOCENCE. Received 5, 12.20 a.m. Berlin, February 4. Stewart has been sentenced to three and a half years' imprisonment in a fortress. Stewart, addressing the public in court, said he'wished everyone in England to know he was innocent.
