THE HOME RULE QUESTION.
FINANCIAL PROVISIONS. DIFFERENT STATEMENTS. Bj CaMe— Press Association— Cefyright. London, February 2. The Times states that despite the report of the Financial Committee, published in the Times on December 2. the Government has decided that the Irish Customs Excise shall remain under Imperial control. Messrs. Redmond and Dillon agree, but good judges believe that the National Assembly will reject the Home Rule Bill unless it provides for fiscal autonomy. The Chronicle, in a forecast of the Bill, however, states that Ireland has full control of Customs and Excise, subject to the continuance of British free trade, and will receive a subsidy of £2,000,000 annually for 15 years.
HIELAND'S FISCAL AUTONOMY. DISINTEGRATION OF UNITED KINGDOM. Received 4, 5.5 pjn. London, February 3. Mr. J. M. Robertson, M.P., speaking in London, said the real difficulty against Home Rule was Ireland's claim to complete, absolute and unchecked fiscal autonomy. If this were granted it would imply disintegration of the United Kingdom. There was no hope for a Home Rule Bill embodying such a claim. Persecution of Catholics at Nelson continues. The police are escorting them to their homes twice daily, and were forced to charge the crowd.
EELIGIOUS PROTESTS. Eeceived 4, 5.5 p.m. London, February 3. The Ulster Methodists are arranging a convention of protest against Home Rule. Of 600 Presbyterian ministers in Ireland 110 refused to join the protest. A CABLE FROM MELBOURNE. London, February 2. Sir E. Carson has received a cable promising the support of six thousand Melbourne loyalists.
