MASTERTON INCIDENTS. WOMEN HELD UP ON THEIR WAY HOME. j Masterton, January 29. | Two cases of attempted robbery are reported to have taken place during last week. On Friday night last a young woman residing in Pine street, was proceeding j homewards along Perry street, after having attended,Brennan's vaudeville en-' ftertainment in the Town Hall, when al man jumped out suddenly from one of the guards which , are .around the trees J in the street and,attempted to snatch a! handbag she was carrying! The lady screamed out, and a man, who,happened. to be further down the street, came running to her. assistance. The assailant, then, decamped, making his way across a paddock in the direction of Lincoln road. . It is stated that another woman had a similar .experience the night before at the same spot, the man on'this occasion seeking flight on, some youths approaching, without securing booty. The woman in this latter case did not call out, but engaged in a struggle with her assailant. The one, man is,probably responsible for the two.incidents,, ~., .
