PERSIA'S REGENERATION.
RUSSIA IN THE WAY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, January 30. The Persia Committee gave a banquet to Mr. Shuster. He attributed his dismissal to Russian hostility, which from the first thwarted his efforts to reconstruct Persian finance. Either the Russian and British Governments intended to destroy the hope of Persia's regeneration, or the Governments were continuously and grossly misinformed.
A BRITISH VIEW. London, January 30. The Westminster Gazette reminds Mr; Shuster that the Mejjiss. ■ was not entitled to transfer the country's finances to a foreign controller ..without reference to the other Governments interested. Mr...Shuster had unwittingly placed Sir Edward Grey in a position of great embarrassment towards Persia on the one hand and towards Russia on the other. The journal concludes by trusting that the Anglo-Russian entente will safeguard Persia's independence.
