korwakd moves. The Taranaki Agricultural Society are to be congratulated upon the decision thev arrived at last night to substitute: an autumn for a spring show, and to <*o on with the erection of a building on their 'own reserve for the holding of winter shows. In regard to the former move, the great weight of argument at the meeting was clearly in favor of the change. It was shown, that nearly every exhibitor at the last spring show had advised the Society to make the departure,

that an autumn show would suit the country people better, that the weather is more likely to be settled in autumn j than in spring, and that there would not be the same.'clashing with other show fixtures in autumn as there is in spring. We are sure the Society will not regret making the alteration and extending the show to three days. The building of hall costing £2OOO is a big undertaking for the Society, but the chairman was able to show that it would be financed on satisfactory terms, and suitable tenants obtained for, portion of the building for a period of three years. It is clear that if the winter show is to continue (and no one dreams of dropping it after the success of the previous shows, held, too, under the most adverse conditions) a more suitable and larger building is absolutely necessary, j St. Germain square is by no means a central position, and we would have preferred a site closer to the heart of "the town, but enquiries have shown it to be impossible to obtain one on terms the Society could manage, and there is therefore no alternative to utilising the Society's own reserve. Of course, the inconvenience will be felt only till such time as tramways are installed. Then St. Germain's will be as handy for the .great bulk of people as any other locality. The Society, we are glad to note, are losing no time in starting operations,' a tender having been accepted for the work last evening. We have no fear but that the enterprise will realise all expectations. For the lead he has given in the matter, the president (Mr. Walter Ambury) deserves the thanks of the community. By such acts he is of a verity "boosting New Plymouth," a course he has commended to the people of the town more than once in. the past.
