PROPOSED LIGHT RAILWAY.
WHANGAREI TO WAIPU. Whangarei, Saturday. Estimates for the Waipu-Whangarei Harbor light railway line have been prepared by the Public Works Department, and alternative routes have been surveyed. The estimated cost of a light line from Waipu to Marsden Point, a distance of twelve miles, £47,500. The cost of a line to Marsden Point (liy 2 miles), on a route running almost parallel with the new deviation, in order to avoid a possiblo sand encroachment, is £50,000. The cost of a line to One-tree Point' (12 miles (0 chains) is £48,000. The line to One-tree Point is the route most favored locally.
