' The Labor Conference adopted the Health Committee's report in favor of the nationalisation of the public health administration under a Minister of the Crown. The Labor Conference at Birmingham passed a resolution demanding an amendment to the Insurance Bill on the ground that the contributions are unjustly heavy, and that the Bill will injure trade unions. The conference condemned the foreign policy, armaments, and militarism,, anA favored an enquiry into how far a general strike in the countries concerned would tend to avert war. The conference also urges the establishment of the principle of the right to work, in order that the reduction of armaments may not involve unnecessary hardships on the workers. There were dramatic scenes when the miners' delegates opposed the suffrage resolution, on the ground that they did not intend to refuse manhood suffrage resolution, on the ground that they did not intend to refuse manhood suffrage merely because women's suffrage was not included. The Labor Conference adopted, a resolution in favor of the introduction of "a Bill providing for a six hours day, fixing the pay for unskilled laborers at 10s, limiting the age of employment in the public service to 05 years, nationalisation of the Health Department, the limitation of rents of the working classes, and the establishment of a State Fire and Life Insurance Department.. , Received 29, 1.10 a.m. The Conference resolved in favor of reforming,' cheapening and consolidating law procedure. A resolution was adopted in favor of a minimum living wage of 'lO s per day for all occupations, with equal pay for women for equal 'work.
