INVERCARGILL WOOL SALES. !__ By Telegraph— Press A»s*ctAti«a. Invercargill, Last Night. The first wool sale of the season, held here to-day, was largely attended. Prices compared well with those ruling ' n .^ e . nor thern centres, and were well maintained. In many instances growers obtained more than they expected. Compared with last Dunedin sale to-day's sale was entirely satisfactory. England, ! America, France, Germany and New Zealand were represented by buyers. Ross & Glendinning, of Dunedin, were directly represented for the first time at the Invercargill sale. Of the 15,200 bales offered, a record for Southland, very few were passed in, and most of these were subsequently disposed of. Competition was animated, and there was no sign of dragging throughout the day, American buyers competing keenly. ' Well-bred and conditioned hoggets' wool was most in demand, and ranged from lOd to ll%d. Pieces were also strongly competed for, and realised as much as 9%d. The top price of the sale was 12d for three bales of half bred, sold on account of Donald McKenzie, Dipton. The average price ruling to-day, compared with January last year, was as follows: (1011 figures in parentheses):— ■' Merinos, super to good, lid to 10% d .
