Mr. Dick Arnst, the well known athlete, -was married in Sydney yesterday to Miss An?y Williams. Mt. Williaij Moriarty, a very old and respected resident of Carterton, died in a private hospital yesterday, aged 77 years.—Carterton wire. At the meeting of th£ University; Senate yesterday it was announced that Charles Stanley Marshall, of Canterbury College, had been awarded the Haydon'prize, which is intended jor the en-. c6uffigemeht of Imperial sentiment! The amount in hiind for the prize is £lO, and; this sum* i» to be spread over;: five ears. i.The death ,^c<ju};red ; at _sew f ;Plymputh y&stefday of Mi- AV. Armstrong; 1 Coiriifiissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor for Taranaki. A few days ago Mr. Armstrong had a paralytic seizure, and his condition,- grew gradually worse. Mr. Armstrong was only recently appointed to New Plymouth, but during his brief residence here he made many friends, who will regret his untimely end. He was a fine type of man, a capable administrator, a considerate chief, and ever ready to- help -'settlerS or local bodies. Mr. Armstrong entered the Survey Department in 1877 as a cadet, and after arriving at the rank of Senior Assistant Surveyor, was on his own application transferred to the office staff. After serving lip that branch for some :ime,he was appointed Chief Draughtsman in the Blenheim office, thence to the same position in Dunedin. Prom Dunedip be was promoted to the position of Chief Surveyor and Commissioner of Crown Lands at New Plymouth.
