Twenty-seven persons were injured, some fatally. CANADA'S DESTINY. London, January 23. Speaking at the Guildhall, in acknowledging the presentation of the Freedom of the City, Lord Grey said that Canada was destined to become a controlling power in the Empire. "Monte .Carlo" Wells and the woman Peris, who were arrested on a yacht and charged with frauds 'in France, were remanded at Bow Street. Evidence was given that Wells' balance in Barclay's Bank is £I2OO. EMIGRANTS' DIET. London, January 23. At the instance of Mr. Coghlan the Board of Trade will allow shipping companies to giye emigrants greater variety of diet, which is especially desirable in view of the large number of children. BUILDING IN SYDNEY. Sydney, January 24. A report presented to the Master Builders' Association states that the cost of buildings completed in Sydney and suburbs last year was £3,825,000. Many other buildings are partially completed, but the demand for bricks is so great that the builders have to wait weeks to get their orders filled.
