Wheat—Two Australian cargoes sold at 37s l'/ 2 d, two others at 37s and 37s 3d respectively. Cotton. —January-February shipment a.2ld. Jute. —February-March £22 10s. Hemp.—Quiet. January-March £22 ss. Rubber., 4s 5%d. Copra—Active. South Sea bags £24 10s, Copper.—Spot, £O2 15s; three months, £63 10s. Tin.—Spot, £190; three months, £lB7 ss. Lead, £ls lis 3d. Silver, 26% d. WHEAT AND FLOUR. London, January 21, The wheat and ilour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,555,000 quarters, for the Continent 1,020,000 quarters, Atlantic shipments 21,900 quarters, Pacific 25,000 quarters. The total shipments to Europe for the week amounted to 775,000 quarters, including Argentine 2000 quarters, Russian 90,000 quarters, Danubian 110.000 quarters, India 89,000 quarters, Australia 168,000 quarters.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The following is the High Commissioner's cablegram under date London, January 20: — Mutton. —The market is quiet and the trade for all classes is very slow, prices being barely maintained. Canterbury, not quoted; North Island, 4%d (limited supply). Lamb.— I The market is firmer, and there is more demand for New Zealand at 53/gd. Beef.—The market remains firm with signs of improvement. New Zealand hinds 3%d, lores 3d. Butter.—The market is quieter; high prices and anticipated labor troubles affect the market; buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. - the average price for the week for choicest New Zealand butter was 130s, Australian 1275, Argentine 1275, Danish 1345, Siberian 120s.
Cheese.—The market is quiet, prices being slightly weaker. The average prices for the week for finest New Zealand cheese were: White 735, colored 725.
Hemp.—The market is firm but quiet at the advance at last quotations. Spot New Zealand good fair £22, fail- £2l, Manila £22 per ton, forward'shipment New Zealand good fair £22, fair £2l, Manila £23. The output frorii Manila for the week Was 24,000 bales. Wool.—The- market shows Jsigns of strength. Americans are buying crossbreds freely.
Hops.—The market shows signs of strenghtening. There is small supply and general and active demand. English 13s,.Cajifornian 12s. Kauri Gipm.—Dark brown selected rescraped 110s to 140s, dark brown scraped 80s to 90s, dark brown chips drossy 30s to (52s 6d, re-scraped pale amber £ll to £l2; three-quarter pale scraped £7, diggers' chips good 455. Very moderate demand. Six hundred and fifty cases were offered and 200 sold. The stock on December 31, 1911, was 381 cases.
