THREE KINGS LIGHT.
MASTER MARINERS WANT .IT. By Telegraph—Press Association / Auckland, Last Night. The utterances of the Minister for Marine (the Hon. J. A. Millar) at Roto<rua a few days ago in regard to his determination against)complying with the suggestion of the master mariners aB to a light at the Three Kings; have ap* parently aroused considerable feeling among master mariners now in port. A meeting was held this afternoon, when there were present twelve captains, mostly of ocean-going vessels. Captain Entirstle. of the Victoria, presided. Captain Ross explained. what he had done in forwarding the matters connected with the petition for additional lighting facilities. The ready way in which the petition had been signed showed tliat there was a feeling of unanimity among ocean-going masters. He read the petition which had been drawn up for presentation to the House of Representatives, pointing out that the sea-borne traffic of the northern part of the Dominion was increasing to such an extent as to slrow that the coast northward of Auckland was not sufficiently lighted for the safety of lives and property entrusted to the care of the petitioners. They urged the erection of a first-class light and fog signal on the Three Kings, also unwatclied lights on the flat rock northward of Kawau Island on Cannel Island, the south entrance to Hauraki Gulf, and a light and fog signal on the North Cape. • The petition as drawn up was adopted.
