Short showers fell early in the: day, but the weather cleared up as the day progressed. The attendance was on' the short side. Some interesting, racings was witnessed, although the fields were] not large. The youngsters' event was a| gift for Styx, who had no trouble in annexing the event. The Cup produced a field of fourteen, and a capital race ensued. Undecided was a surprise packet He came right from the ruck aibout two furlongs from home, and the rest of the field were not in the hunt. The Telegraph Handicap provided a good race, Dearest securing a win after a good inside effort. The.tote figures for the day were £22,675 10s, against £19,307 for the corresponding of last year. TARANAKI AUTUMN MEETING. Owners and trainers are finally reminded that nominations for all events to be decided at the Taranaki Jockey Club's autumn meeting on February 14 and 15 close to-night at 9 p.m. The programme, which, is advertised in another column, is one which should find favor with horse owners on account of the good stakes offered. The Taranaki Cup (one mile and a quarter) carries with it 300 sovs., and the Paul Memorial Handicap (one mile, arid a- distance), is. worth 200 so vs. The Stewards', and Grandstand Handicaps,are endowed with £l5O apiece. Two hurdle races of £IOO each and various hack events make up a fine attraction, and the club's secretary, Mr. E. P. Webster, ahould be kept ,busy this evening. This meeting follows the Egmont meeting closely and therefore draw a good number of "outside" horses.
