QUITTING A POSn.JN. By Cable—Press London, January 10. Mr. Runciman, President of the Board of Agriculture, in a speech at Newcastle, said he was'not sorry to quit the Board of Education. He was impatient with the Nonconformists, who refused to recognise the sincerity of religious convictions with "which they disagreed. They would have to concede the principle of religious equality. DEMONSTRATION AT A THEATRE. London, January 19. Four thousand ministers attended a matinee performance of "The Miracle." Fifty Kensitites, with a "No Popery" banner, made a demonstration at the entrance to the theatre, but were qmckly routed by supernumeraries. One Kensitite was badly mobbed, and lay iu a semiconscious condition. A STEAMER BLOWN UP. New York January 19. A river steamer blew up at Kalama. Oregon, the captain and two of the crew being killed. Nine persons escaped from the sinking vessel by means of lifeboats, many being attired only in night clothes. SUSPECTED ROBBER COMMITS SUICIDE. London, January 19. Hubener, a man who was formerly employed at the Austrian Embassy, was suspected of a jewel robbery at the embassy. He was found in a Congregational Church in Tolmer Square at midnight, and the police attempted to arrest him, whereupon he committed suicide with a revolver.
