An important event in the growth of I the feminist movement in Germany, which in the last few years has made great strides, was the opening in Leipzig of the first University College for Women in Germany. The new college ■will not confine its students to the ordinnhy curriculum, but has as its chief object the education of women in the performance of their duties as the mothers and rearers of the nation. At the same time, the school is by no means to be considered as a cooking and sewing class, but will train its students in all the ordinary university branches of learning. The school owes its foundation to the efforts of Frau Heniretta Goldschmidt, the widow of a Jewish rabbi, and one of the most remarkably figures at the bead of the German feminist movement.
