At Rahotu on Tuesday I had a good entry of stock and a good attendance. Bidding throughout the day was brisk for all lines, except 18-months heifers. A nice pen of store bullocks were yarded, and after keen competition were sold at £6 Is 6d. Two pens of weaners were offered but were passed in at Iss 6d. Yearling to 15-months mixed realised £2 10s fid, yearling to 18-months heifers £2 7s Gd to £2 14s, 18-months steers £2 16s to £3 2s, empty 2-year heifers £3 9s to £3 10s Gd, empty grade Jersey heifers (good colors) £5 3s, 2%-year steers £5 3s, store bullocks £6 Is fid, store cows (strong demand) £2 10s to £3 19s 6d, forward cows £4 as, fat cows £4 16s to £5, bulls £4 7s to £7 ss. MATTHEWS & BENNETT'S REPORT^ Messrs Matthews and Bennett report that there was a fair entry of battle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last, prices being about the same. Weaners made £1 7s 6d to £1 10s Cd, steers £3 to £3 6s, heifers £3 Is to £3 Bs, bulls £3 to £4 7s fid, store cows £2 6s to £3 7s, forward cows £4 to £4 ss. LONDON MARKETS. Mr. R. W. D. Robertson, loca/1 agent for A. Clement and Sons, England, lias received the following cable, dated London, January 18, 1912: Butter.—Salted, 130s; unsalted, 132smarket hardening. ' Cheese.—White, 725; colored, 72smarket hardening . ' SOUTHERN MARKETS. ADDINGTON. At Addington there were moderate yardings of nearly all classes of stock, and a good attendance. Fat cattle showed no change, store sheep and fat lambs sold well, and fat sheep opened at last week's rates, but eased off towards the end of the sale. Pigs were in keen demand.
Sheep—Best rape lambs made 12s 9d to 13s fid, good 12s to I2s fid, medium lis to lis 9d, smaller 9s 9d to 10s Cd, culls 7s lOd, small 2-tooth ewes lis fid, 2, 4 and 6-tootlis 15s 7d, young cull ewes 10s to lis, full-mouth merino ewes 7s lOd, ewes (with lambs) 9s 3d to lis 7d, forward 4 and fl-tooth wethers 15s to 16s, 2-tooths lis 6d to 12s 3d. small culls 9s 6d to 10s 9d.
Lambs—best lambs made 14s 6d to 17s, lighter I2s lOd to 14s. Fat sheep—Prime wethers 17s Gd to 21s, others 12s 6d to 17s, prime ewes 15s 6d to 18s 6d, extra to 20s, others 11b to 15s, merino wethers 10s (id to 14s 6d. Fat cattle—Steers made £7 2s fid to £l3 10s, heifers £5 5s to £9 ss, cows £5 10s to £8 2s 6d (equal to 25s to *2OB per 1001b). Veal calves made 4a fid to 57s fid, according to size and quality. Store cattle—Good stores sold wall, 15 to 18-months making 32s 6d to £3 los, 2-year steers £4 17s 6d, 2-year heifers £3 los, 3-year steers £6 17s 6d, 3-.vear heifers £4 ss, dry cows 27s fid to £i os. Dairy cows sold at £3 10s to £8 17s fid. Fat pigs—Choppers made 55s to 80s, large baconers 80s to 735, smaller 48s to 57s fid (equal to (Id per lb); large porkers 42s to 495, smaller 35s to 48s (equal to Cd per lb). A small entry of store pigs sold at advanced rates under active competition, medium sorts making 18s to 255, weaners 12s 6d to 17s 6d, sows in pig 45s to 50s. BURNSIDE. At Burnside 194 fat cattle were yarded. Extra prime bullocks £l3 10s to £l4 ,10s, good £lO 10s to £l2, light £7 10s to £9 10s, best cows and heifers £8 10s to £9 12s 6d, good £7 5s to £8 ss, light £5 10s to £6 10a. Fat sheep Extra prime wethers (heavy) 20s to 21s Od, medium weights 18s to 19s, light and unfinished 15s to 17s, extra prime heavy ewes to 20s 9d, me- j dium weights 16s to 27s fid, light 13s to | 14s, aged 8s to 10s. J"at lambs—Best 15s to lfis 9d, good 13s 6d to 14s 6d, light and unfinished 10s to 12s Cd. Pigs—Suckers lis to 14s, slips Ifis to 20s, stores to 265, porkers 36s to 425, baconers 45s to 508, heavy do. to 70s. MARTON. Messrs Dalgety and Co. report:—We have to report having a medium entry of sheep and cattle at our Marton sale, all of which met a ready sale at prices as below:—Aged shorn ewes (in low condition) 6s 9d to Bs, light fat cows to 12s, empty woolly ewes to lis Bd, empty forward woolly ewes to 14s 61. Cattle: Weaner heifers to £2 ss, yearling steers £2 13s 6d, store cows (in low condition) £2 10s, 15-months heifers £3 to £3 9s fid, mixed 15-months cattle £3, mixed 2-year cattle £3 19s, forward cows to £4, 2-year dairy heifers to £4 12s. JOHNSONVILLE. Messrs Abraham and: Williams, Ltd., report: A heavy yarding of prime bullocks and sheep came forward, and sold readily at late rates. Prime heavy bullocks £9 12s 6d to £9 17s fid, lighter £0 5s to £9 10s, light £8 15s to £9, plain £8 to £8 7s fid, good wethers 15s 9"d, prime heavy ewes 14s 6d, prime ewes 13s Cd, prime lambs 12s lid to 13s lOd, medium lambs lis 3d to lis 6d, plain 10s 3d to 10s fid. MASTERTON. Messrs. Abraham and Williams report: There were yarded 1220 sheep and 149 head of cattle, ivhieh sold at late rates. The entry of sheep comprised a number of good lines of Down cross lambs, which sold at from 9s 5d to 9s 7d; others 3s to 7s, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 13s 3d, yearling steers 37s fid to £■> 7s Cd, 2-year steers £4 to C 4 ss. 3-vcur steers £5 13s fid to His, yearling heifers 37s lid to £2, store cows £3, forward cows £3 13s lid. fat cows £5 5s to £5 10s.
