HAABOR BOARD.

! MONTHLY MEETING. j The monthly meeting was held yesterr day. There were present:—Messrs. J. B. Connett (chairman), Newton King, E'. Dockrill, C. A. Wilkinson, D. Hughes, j W. J. Swadling, E. Maxwell, and C. E. Bellringer.

HARBORMASTER'S REPORT. Captain W. J. Newton reported for the five weeks ending the 13th inst:—Thirtyfour steamers of the aggregate tonnage of 3,7,512 tons had worked the port Inwards and outwards. The total imports for that period amounted to 4189 tons, of which 956 tons were coal—2l7 tons for the Railway Department and 739 tons for private use. The exports for that period of produce and sundries amounted to 2455 tons. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. Mr. F. Henderson wrote from Wellington, stating that the delay in getting the Paritutu on the slip was vexing, but they were assured of getting on on the 19th. The Government inspectors were very particular, and were giving a good deal of work which was not expected. He said the boilers and engines were inspected at New Plymouth in July, but they had compelled them to open up everything again, otherwise they would only give a six months' certificate. They would now get a twelve months' certificate from the date of shipping. The repairs to the machinery were more extensive than he anticipated, and he estimated the expenses for engineering, painting, etc., would amount to about) £650, which was allowing for three I days on the slip., There was not much to do to the hull. A telegram -was received from Mr. Henderson during the meeting, in which he said the dredge was going on the slip that (yesterday)' afternoon. WHARF EXTENSION. The chairman reported that satisfactory progress was being made at the wharf, and that boats could be berthed now on the new face. ACCOUNTS. The sum of £1872 3s 5d was passed for payment. HARBORMASTER. Captain G. Halford was appointed harbormaster vice Captain Newton, resigned. There were 24 applications fw the position.
