INCREASED PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Berlin, January 18. The report of Lieutenant Trench's attempted suicide is still unconfirmed. Increased precautions are being taken, including the erection of insurmountable barbed wire barriers. The War Office alleges that it had knowledge that Trench had made plans to escape. , .1 A Russian, Lieutenant Vinogradorff, has been sentenced to three years' im■piißonment, and an Austrian, Lieutenant von Cerno, to three years at Leipzig ior' espionage in the interest of Russia. Glatz states that Lieutenant Trench's attempt to commit suicide in his cell in.the fortress, was due to a belief that he would not be permitted to continue in the army after his release.
