A RIDING FATALITY.

By Telegraph —Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Alfred Ivery, aged 36 years, a farmer at Fairview, near Timaru, was found dead on the road this morning. Last night he went out riding a young horse, and was thrown and dragged some distance. He had heen dead some hours before being found. The inquest was adjourned till to-morrow. MAN LOSES A HAND. Dunedin, Last Night. A man named Peter Campbell was the victim of an accident at Owaka which resulted in one of his hands being torn off. He was brought to the hospital to-night, but at the present details 'of the accident are not available. THROWN OYER A CLIFF. Gisborne, Yesterday. Harry Field, aged forty-five, single, a carter employed by the Public Works Department, met with a serious accident at Rakauroa, near Gisborne, to-day. Field was driving an empty dray along a narrow road, when the horse shied and precipitated the vehicle over the cliff, and all fell 70 feet to the bottom. The man was thrown clear of the dray, but received serious injury to his back and was badly bruised. He was conveyed to town this evening by train and admitted to the hospital. •His condition is not critical. A CHINAMAN'S DEATH. Thames, Yesterday. The inquest on the Chinaman who shot himself showed that deceased had bad health. His relatives had decided to send him back to China. The night before he killed himself he was heard walking on the verandah muttering all night. THE GORE MOTOR SMASH. Gore, Yesterday. . Smith, who was injured in the motor smash yesterday, is improving. ' YOUNG MAN'S SUICIDE. Te Kuiti, Yesterday. A young man named A. W. Evans was found at Piopio, sixteen miles from Te Kuiti, yesterday, with a revolver shot in his head and the weapon in his hand. He died shortly afterwards. Evans came from England about two years ago.
