Lord Kitchener and Sir Francis Wing&ie, representatives of the Khedive, greeted their Majesties, who landed and held a reception to the shieks and chiefs of the Upper Nile tribes, many of whom travelled hundreds of miles. The King, in a speech, extolled the chivalrous General Gordon and Tewfik Bey's defence of Sinkat in 1884, and said the object of the present administration was to bring the Soudan into closer touch with civilisation. i Their Majesties were entertained at Sinkat, and reviewed the Soudanese troops, including 3500 camelry. They witnessed native dances and returned to the steamer Medina. v
