Following is the High Commissioner's cablegram under date London, January 13 (quotations, unless otherwise specified, being averaga market prices on spot) : Mutton.—The market is not much changed, but the tendency is slightly in favor of buyers. Canterbury (nominally) 4y 2 d, North Island 4y B d. Lamb.—The market is very quiet, as the result of heavy arrivals. Australian 4y B d, Argentine 4 x / 4 d. Nine hundred carcases of New Zealand have arrived, and are selling at 5y 2 d. Beef.—The beef market is very firm. It is affected by the uncertainty regarding the Argentine strike. Supplies are decreasing. New Zealand hinds 3%d, fores 3d. Butter.—The market is very firm, and the demand fdre'fepofc -good, also for butter to arrive. The average price for the week for choicest New Zealand butter per cwt was 1355, Australian 1325, Argentine 131s, Danish 1395. The arrivals of butter during December were 5000 tons less than in December of last year. The imports of butter into the United Kingdom during December, 1910, amounted to 12,141 tons. Cheese. The market is very firm, with general and active demand. The market shows signs of strength. The average price for the week for choicest New Zealand cheese per cwt was 73s 6d. The arrivals of cheese during December amounted to 3500 tons less than in December last. The imports of cheese into the United Kingdom during December, 1010, amounted to 10,319 tons. Hemp. The market remains firm, having been favorably affected by the Mexican Government's sisal agreement. New Zealand good fair grade on spot. £22, New Zealand fair grade £2l; forward shipment at same price; fair current Manila on spot £22, forward shipment fair current Manila £23. The output from Manila for the week was 27,000 bales. Wheat.—The market is quiet. New Zealand long-berried wheat on spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4961b, 35s 6d; short-berried wheat 355. Oats.—Good demand for all descriptions. The supply falls short of demand. New Zealand oats, short sparrowbills, ex granary on spot, per quarter of 3841b, 24s 6d; Danish, per quarter of 3201b, 20s. Cocksfoot Seed.—The market is very firm. Wool.—The market remains firm. Mutton and Lamb. Following are the River Plate shipments received during December, 191.1:—London, mutton 59,481 carcases, lamb 42,288 carcases; Liverpool, mutton 180y883 carcases, lamb 82,819 carcases; Hull, mutton 6000 carcases, lamb 338 carcases; Newcastle, mutton 18,397 carcases, lamb 2700 carcases; Southampton, mutton 7567 carcases, lamb 320 carcases; Cardiff, mutton -6553 carcases; totals, mutton 284,881 carcases, lamb 128,465 carcases.
