Mr. King, Resident Commissioner for tl c Ntfw Hebrides, has cabled tlie Navigation Department that the steamar Tr.thra had foundered at sea, and that 2i lives were lost, including Chief Engineer Russell, Chief Steward Wilcox and a passenger named Ixer. 39 SURVIVORS PICKED UP. Received 16, 12.30 a.m. Sydney, January 15. Burns, Philp & Co. have received a message stating that the steamer Malaita picked up a lifeboat with thirty-eight survivors of the Tathra, including the master and officers. There are no further details of the missing party, or how they were lost.
