PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Parihaka Road Board was held at Rahotu on Thursday, when there were present — 1 Messrs. Jas. Young (chairman), T. Harvey, Potter, Leahy and Ducker. The foreman reported that specifications had been drawn up for work on the Lower Waiteika, Manihi and Lower Arawhata roads, tenders for which closed at that meeting. Work on Pungarehu road would shortly be started. On the Stent road he recommended forming and metalling 18 chains from the end of the present metal. This would satisfy the settlers, and the formation of the remaining 40 chains could be left over for a future date. The contractor for the Public Trustee grant on the Ihaia road had commenced work. Money granted for repairing the Warea road had been spent on the top end, and about £5 was required t9 be spent on the lower portion. The Witeora road was now under repair. During the month the following roads had been repaired: Parihaka, Cape, Lower Kahui, Ngariki, Upper Arawhata, /Lower and Upper Waiteika, Warea, Stent and Bayly. The Board resolved to call for tenders for work on Stent road to the value of £SO; and the foreman was authorised to expend £5 on the Warea road, as suggested. The question of procuring a pound site was discussed, the present lease having just about expired. The clerk, as authorised, reported that Mr. Baker's property of four acres could he purchased for £220, which would give ample room for pound, horse paddock and foreman's residence, if necessary. It; was resolved to endeavor to lease or purchase the present pound site. Tenders were dealt with as follows: Metalling on Manihi road, G. Vickery, , £3 5s per chain; T. Henricksen, £2 17s 6d (accepted). Supply and delivery of 80 yards boulder stone Lower Arawhata road, Geo. Vickery, 4s .5d (accepted). No tender was received foir work on Lower Waiteika road, and it was decided to call , tteft tenders. As Mr. Willcox's name does not appear on the rate book it was decided, in i accordance with the resolution passed at last meeting, to test the validity of his election. Mrs. Peters waited on the Board and asked that certain work should be done on Young street. The rate, when received, will be expended on the work, llr. Bowman, representing the settlers at the top end of the Opua road, asked thf seven chains of metalling should be no from the cheese factory up. Fe pi :d out that this carried the heaviest traffic, and asked that the special rate of £(!2 10s, and £4O from the genj eral rate of ,CiKi 15..], should be expended on this portion. The remaining £SO could be expended on the lower end.— The foreman is to report at next meeting on the work asked for—Abridged from Opunake Times.
