INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The town this week is very quiet. The farmers are taking advantage of the fine weather t6 get their. hay in, and consequently have no time to come to town shopping. On Sunday evening the only child of Mr. and Mrs. B. Clough passed away, after a short illness. The funeral took place on Tuesday, and was well attended. The service was conducted by Ensign Simpson, S.A. The Boy Scouts had a field day on Thursday, at which they were assisted by a number of the New Plymouth boys, who "hiked" out under the leadership of Patrol Leader H. Jenkinson. After a good afternoon's work the billy was boiled, and a well earned tea enjoyed. A very welcome feature of this meal was a case of fruit donated by Mr. C. Sharood (dynamo attendant at the powerhouse'in Ijhe neighborhood of which the "scputing" had taken place). Before leaving for Inglewood the boys lined up and gave three rousing cheers for this gentleman, to show their appreciation of his kindness. In the evening Dr. D. Gault gave- them the first of a series of lectures on "first aid," which was very attentively listened to by the Scouts, The New Plymouth lads also attended this lecture, and also stayed the night, being entertained by the parents of the local Scouts, and returned home this (Friday) morning. The southerly wind and the dust this week have been the cause of many heartily expressed wishes for a municipal watering cart. One ntorning the Council employees ventured out with a hose, and did good work for an hour or so, but, alas, they were like so many people who start good works, they did' not continue, and by the time they had finished putting the hose away the dust was as bad as ever.
The Salvation Army changes officers this week, Ensign Simpson proceeding to Opotiki, and Ensign Avenal coming here from Masterton.
