LIMITATION OF RENTS.
LABOR COUNCIL DEPUTATION. l l y Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 10, 9.5 p.m. Sydney, January 10. A Labor Council deputation asked Mr. Beeby to introduce a Limitation of Rents Bill with a view to alleviating distress amongst workers, consequent on the high rents. The deputation tendered much information as to the difficulties of obtaining houses and the extortionate demands of landlords. Another plea was that the continued influx of immigrants would have to be reckoned with.
I Mr. Beeby admitted'the question was | one of extreme urgency. Next month | the Government would introduce a Bill |_to enable.them to erect houses. The only way out of the difficulty was for the State to become a competitor with the landlords. He regretted the demuation did not furnish a practical scheme for limiting rents. If a workable scheme were submitted the Government would consider it.
