Brisbane, January 9. There was a disastrous fire at Pittsworth, by which five buildings in the principal 'business block were destroyed. The fire was still burning early this | morning. PRICE OF BUTTER RAISED. Sydney, January 9. The price of butter has been raised 4s per cwt, following reports of the hardening of the London market. VICE-REGAL RESIDENCE. Sydney, January 9. In reply to expressions of general regret at the Government's action in withdrawing the vice-regal residence from Federal use, Mr. Holman ' sfrftes that the business of tie dignity of a Governor-General and providing possible hospitality in August' for visitors is the duty of the Commonwealth. It is not the State's duty to supplement the omissions of Federal management.
