LABOR IN AUSTRALIA.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Hobart, January 9. At the Labor Conference only pressmen representing the Labor papers were admitted. They had to promise not to publish damaging statements by extremists. A motion to amend the Federal objective providing an additional clause for the settling of international disputes by a council of civilised nations was rejected, as was also a clause to give security for the full results of industry to all ■ wealth-producers by the collective ownership of all means of production, which had been proposed to replace the clause providing for a similar result by the collective ownership of monopolies. A motion for the unification of States was uder discussion . when the conference adjourned. Mr. Fisher, though not favoring straight-out unification, declared that the Federal Government should have greater powers. FEDERATION MAY DISAPPEAR. " A BRAND NEW CONSTITUTION." Received 10, 1.5 ajn. Hobart, January 9. At the Labor Conference Mr. Fisher, i" a speech on the unification motion, >■ iid' the present Federation did not give satisfaction to the States, which complained their their functions were usurped.
