BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last evening, when there were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. Browne) and Crs. Gilbert, Morey, Mannix, Clarke, Stocker, Ambury, Buttimore, Hartnell, Jackson, Kibby.
His Worship extended a welcome to Crs. Kibby and Jackson, the newlyelected representatives of the Fitzroy Ward. They had previously signed the usual declaration. SEASIDE COMMITTEE.
A deputation from the Fitzroy Seaside Committee waited on the Council and requested that water be laid on to the bathing shed at Fitzroy, and to appoint two councillors on their committee. —Resolved, that the borough engineer be instructed to connect the water supply at a cost not exceeding £25, the committee to first forward a letter handing over the bathing shed to the Council.
MARSLAND HILL. Mr. W. J. Coyle, gaoler, wrote in reference to an application of the Council that Marsland Hill reserve be kept clean by prison labor free of charge, that as the Police Department had the use of the back portion free of charge he thought the request a very reasonable one, and would forward the Council's letter to Wellington with a recommendation that the request be granted.
SKINNER ROAD. ' Mr. C. J. MacKenzie, resident engineer, wrote the Council with reference to Skinner road ballast pit, stating that the Council seemed to be under a misapprehension as regards the matter, as the 'original agreement entered into with the sub-lessees of the land at the time had endorsed. thereon the following consent to the Department using the land for ballast purposes: "The consent of the New Plymouth Council has been given to the within agreement without prejudice to the Council's right to compensation for any permanent damage that may be caused to the property." The above consent was obtained as a result of a letter, addressed to the Department by the Borough Council. It would be seen on reference to same that the Department undertook to supply the Council with particulars of damage incurred to the land when the extent thereof had been ascertained. The matter was held over. SEWERS. It was decided that Miss Woods be informed that the Council could not see its way to grant her a refund of the 12s paid by her for fines'and costs on an information laid against ner by the Borough Inspector for not connecting with the sewers, the Council considering that the two months intervening between the time when the notice was given and the bearing of the case was ample to enable her to connect with the sewers or to notify the Council that a contract had been let for the work. It was Tesolvcd that unless a contract has been let and a drainage permit taken out for the work, the Inspector be instructed to take proceedings in all cases where two months has elapsed since the seTvice of the notice requiring connection, and the work has not been com: menced. , ■ .
PLUMBERS'. EXAMINATION. Mr. A. H. Kendall wrote with regard to plumbers' examination that in view of the stand taken up by the Taranaki Education Board's committee he very much regretted to have to ask to be from officiating at any examination for plumbers outside their control.
It was resolved that the letter be referred to His Worship the Mayor to report upon, and in the meantime Messrs.
