M&ckeniie, Minister ia charge of the Health Department, to-day informed a deputation from Hanmer, \ which complained that several matters in their opinion required looking into, that the place ought to he leased and managed. A great deal of this oppositkm was carping criticism, hut -there is a lot of it merely political. If Rotorua is not satisfied with what has been done, what can he done with other places? A place like Hanmer could always be . best» ' managed' by those resident and interested in the place. Those people could dp a great deal of minor work, which did not involve a big cost. He pointed out that the Government spent something like £IO,OOO in the last threa. years in improvements in and about Hanmer. He reiterated that in his opinion the best thing that could be done was to lease the place as a sanatorium.
