Mrs. Robert Grigor, of Balclutha, whoarrived in. Port Chalmers from England in 1867, died last week.' A Sydney cablegram states that Archbishop Wright sails for New Zealand early in February for a month's holiday ' tour. A (Sydney cable records the death of , r Mi. Kihsellk, formerly Dairy Commis-*' sioner of New Zealand, after a lengthy illness. Mr. T. Buchanan relinquishes the position of Town Clerk of Waitara at the end of 'the present month, after 14 years' service. The Rev. J. Liddell and Mr. R. Pepperell are leaving for Christchurch this . morning to attend the Primitive Methodist conference. Mr. C. E. Bellringer, also a delegate, leaves to-morrow morning. Mr. Justice Cohen, of New South Wales, whose death on 'board the steamer Friederich der Grosse, while returning from an extended' holiday in Europe, was reported by a Press Association cablegram from Sydney yesterday, had 'been a judge of the Supreme Court of New, South Wales since 1896, and was the first President of the Arbitration Court. After following mercantile pursuits, he went to London in 1888 to study law and was called to the bar at the Middle Temple in 1871, and to the New South Wales bar the same year. He sat as M.L.A. for West Maitland for seven years and was a member of two Ministries, first as Colonial Treasurer, and later as Minister of Justice. Among '■ other public offices he held the chairmanship of the Board of Management of the Sydney Hospital Saturday Fund since its inauguration in 1894. He was seventytwo years of age. The Marquis of Tweeddale, who died a few weeks ago, was 85 years of age. In his earlier years' he was engaged in the Bengal Civil Service, and acted a» Deputy-Commissioner for Simla and Superintendent c-f Hill States, Northern India. In 1865, as Lord William Montague Hay, he entered Parliament as Liberal member for Taunton, and' sat for three years. Then, after unsuccessfully contesting elections in Haddingtonshire and Midlothian, he was returned in 1878 for Haddington' Burghs. In the same year, on the death of his brother, whom he succeeded, he became the tenth marquess. Lord Tweeddale became chairman of the North British Railway, and ' was several times Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. He married Candida Louisa, daughter of Vincenzo Bartolucci, of Cautiano, Italy. His heir is the Earl of He owned! about ' 40,000 acres.
