WESTPORT COAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, Saturday. Following is the coal output for the past two years:—Westport Coal Co., 1911 623,324 tons, 1910 616,535, a record for the company's mines; WestportStockton Co., 1911 86,851, 1910 151,950; Seddonville State Mine, output for 1911 50,325 tons, a falling-off of 12,000 tons compared with 1910. THFET CASES. Gisborne, Saturday. Sidney Palmer was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on two charges of theft from a pawnbroker's shop in which he had been employed. The magistrate ordered the money found on accused to be confiscated, and that the amount received from persons in Hawke's Bay in respect of Beveral articles be refunded. Palmerston North, Saturday. At the Police Court a named Harry Hay was charged with stealing £2B at Wellington, the property of Robert Buchele. The police evidence was to the effect that accused was a room-mate of Buchele, who had £2B in his pockets on retiring. Next morning when he awoke his mate and the money were missing. Hay was remanded to appear at Wellington on January. 'FOR CLOSER SETTLEMENT. Ashburton, Last Night. The Ashburton Guardian is informed on good authority that the Government has acquired for closer settlement purposes Thomas Morland's Mitcham farm, 70 or 80 miles from Rakaia. and comprising 1700 acres of good cropping and grazing land. It is rumored that the price paid was £U3 per acre.
